Design Idea

To give this quilt and even scrappier look, sew scraps together, then cut the larger triangle quilt pieces as we did in chapter 1.

ASSEMBLY

1 Sew each of the small white triangles to a triangle of scrap fabric to make half-square triangle blocks.

2 Sew all of these into groups of 2 with half of them facing one way and half the other.

3 Add the remaining scrap triangles to build 48 of each of the units shown here.

4 Lay out the units as shown and sew them together.

5 You now have all 48 of the quarter blocks needed to make the quilt. You could sew them into pinwheels, as in the original two-color pattern, or you can play with them on the design wall, as I did, and make your own design. There are many different ways to put them together, each with a completely different look. Here’s my layout for TROUBLES WITH SCRAPS. Refer to Finishing School on pages 130–137 for instructions on finishing your quilt.
